We’ve all seen annual reports—pages of metrics, tables, and financial jargon. But for Nashville Electric Service (NES), the 2024 report needed to be more than numbers. They wanted to celebrate the people—employees and customers alike—who make every day brighter and strengthen the community they serve. Rather than speaking to a passive audience, NES sought to highlight their customers as true partners in progress. The result was a creative and heartfelt theme: “Better Together.”

Through thoughtful design, authentic photography, and human-centered storytelling, the 2024 annual report captures NES’s renewed focus on connection, collaboration, and community impact.

The Process

To bring this vision to life, over 20 individuals were interviewed to share their perspective on what “Better Together” means to them. Each person’s story is paired with their own handwritten version of the phrase, emphasizing individuality within unity. Across four days of photography, I art directed each shoot to ensure every subject was portrayed authentically and in their best light—literally and figuratively. The final piece blends personal narratives and visual warmth to showcase a utility company that’s as people-powered as the city it serves.
